April is Native Hawaiian Plant Month and we are celebrating it with Protect & Preserve Hawai'i! 5% of sales for this sweater will go toward Protect & Preserve Hawai'i, who's purpose is to give back to the 'āina through mauka to makai conservation efforts and aim to protect Hawai'i's native ecosystems and cultural heritage.

The plants embroidered play a vital role in Hawai'i's community.

Kalo: Although not necessarily a native plant, it is considered a canoe plant. Kalo has deep connections to Hawaiian culture and history and plays an important role when it comes to sustainability in Hawai'i.

'Ilima: 'Ilima is native plant that can be found in dry forests or along the coast. The 'Ilima flower can be used in lei making and is the flower that represents the island of O'ahu.

'Ohi'a Lehua: 'Ohi'a Lehua is a native plant that plays a vital role in sustaining healthy forests and ecosystems. By being both a pioneer and a keystone species, healthy 'Ohi'a Lehua indicates a healthy forest by aiding in replenishing aquifers and forming new soil.

Naupaka: Naupaka is a native plant that can also be found in forests or along the coast. Naupaka plays an important role in traditional Hawaiian medicinal practices.
